WASHINGTON-T-Mobile USA Inc. announced it has added American University to its Wi-Fi hot-spot network, offering students, faculty and alumni wireless Internet access on the school’s campus.
T-Mobile Wi-Fi service will be available in 10 buildings on campus, and T-Mobile will offer special discounts on the wireless broadband service in certain places off campus. The hot-spot announcement extends the carrier’s relationship with American University, under which the school’s students, faculty and staff are eligible to receive special rates on wireless voice and data plans.
T-Mobile said the news is part of a hot-spot initiative to enable public Wi-Fi in semi-private locations like university and corporate campuses. “Enterprise IT managers tell us they want public Wi-Fi at their facilities for visitors,” said Joe Sims, vice president and general manager for T-Mobile HotSpot. “But instead of opening the enterprise WLAN, they want a separately operated Wi-Fi network, and that’s where we come in-it’s a value-added solution for our enterprise customers that leverages the branding and reach of our extensive HotSpot network.”
