MetroPCS launches 2 new LTE smartphones

Coming out of a disappointing fourth quarter, MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS) introduced two new LTE smartphones on Day One of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The flat-rate regional service provider unveiled The Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G and the LG Connect 4G.

The Galaxy Attain 4G runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and sports a pre-loaded Google Talk app for video chat. It has a 3.5″ screen, a 3MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera. The phone will be available online and in MetroPCS stores for $200 and will be eligible for the company’s $50 and $60 smartphone rate plans.

The LG Connect 4G also runs Android 2.3 and will be on sale within a month. It is the company’s first handset to include a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. It boasts a 4″ screen, a 5MP rear camera with flash and a front camera, as well as 720p HD video capture. Rhapsody Unlimited Music service and Dolby Mobile are both pre-loaded.

MetroPCS was the first US carrier to launch a commercial LTE network in the United States. Its network is smaller than those of the major carriers, and reported speeds have been significantly slower.
