First the Hummer phone, now the Levi’s phone

The French ModeLabs Group, a contract device manufacturer, appears to be dialing in on American brands by making phones that both promote those brands and serve as a fashion and communication accessory.
The latest: ModeLabs announced that it will be making a handset for Levi’s, which already makes a line of “lifestyle accessories”-which includes pants.
Calling mobile phones “the ultimate accessory,” You Nguyen, a Levi’s spokesperson, said that “technology is at the heart of today’s youth culture.”
The Levi’s phone will have a riveted steel casing, apparently to mimic the rivets on the company’s sturdy American jeans. Naturally it’ll come in a variety of colors, including gender-based colors with a mirror-like screen for the “fashion forward,” according to the two companies’ press release.
The phone is initially aimed at the European market and is due in September. No pricing or carrier deals were announced.
ModeLabs recently announced a deal with General Motors to produce a Hummer phone, named for, uh, the ostensibly luxurious backcountry vehicle driven mostly by wealthy suburbanites who never leave town.
