Siemens to integrate Ubiquity SIP server

MUNICH-The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group and Ubiquity Software Corp. announced they will integrate Ubiquity’s Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Application Server into Siemens’ IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS@vantage.

With Ubiquity’s server, Siemens can now offer operators and open application manufacturers (OAMs) a software environment for designing SIP-based multimedia and telephony services. According to Siemens, several operators are currently testing services, including push-to-talk-over-cellular and infotainment and telephone conferencing, based on the integrated platform.

“The SIP standard will play a major role for transporting real-time multimedia service content in the IMS on 2.5G and 3G networks,” said Christoph Caselitz, president of networks at Siemens Mobile. “Ubiquity’s SIP Application Server meets our needs for an open environment for developing standards-based applications and fits seamlessly into IMS@vantage.”

In related news, Ubiquity will join with Convedia Corp. to demonstrate Caller Ringback Tones and Mobile conferencing solutions powered by a jointly developed platform at this week’s CTIA Wireless 2004 show in Atlanta.

The platform combines Ubiquity’s SIP Application Service and Convedia’s IP Media Server, enabling application developers to create wireless solutions including caller ringback tones, push-to-talk, multimedia conferencing, unified messaging, find me, follow-me and speech-controlled services. The companies have just completed interoperability and certification testing of their respective products and said the joint solution is the industry’ first 3GPP IMS-compliant solution to “fully embrace the true power of SIP.”

“This platform powers the creation and deployment of innovative services, enabling 2.5G and 3G mobile operators to offer the latest multimedia enhanced services to their subscribers,” said Jeff Liebl, vice president of marketing for Ubiquity.
