CHARLOTTE, N.C.-BellSouth Corp. said it will launch its first major public Wi-Fi deployment in Charlotte, N.C., providing its customers with free access to high-speed wireless data at public locations concentrated in the Center City of Charlotte and surrounding suburbs. The telecommunications provider added the FastAccess Wi-Fi trial would be a test for business and consumer demand for public Wi-Fi service, large-scale deployment of a public Wi-Fi service and technical support for the network.
The trial is scheduled to begin during the second quarter of this year and include 100 hot spots throughout the city with a majority located in the central business district, including restaurants, waiting areas and parks.
