Acision Media Optimizer promises to reduce network congestion

Mobile data company Acision is launching a new product that is says helps address network congestion issues related to growth of mobile video.
The company’s Acision Media Optimizer reduces data traffic peaks by up to 50%, said Acision. Part of the company’s Broadband Mobility Suite, the Media Optimizer uses a scalability approach that uses a fraction of the hardware footprint found in other products, according to Acision.
Acision said mobile video represents about 40% of all mobile data traffic and is expected to represent almost two-thirds of mobile data traffic by 2014. The company recently commissioned a study in the United Kingdom to evaluate quality of experience perceptions surrounding mobile video and found customers have frequent issues with mobile video, including stalling, long wait periods and poor quality.
“Legacy optimization solutions have been in the market since the early days of mobile internet, promising to reduce traffic peaks by compressing all web and video traffic. In the current mobile broadband era, these types of solutions are economically unsustainable, as they require large server farms to deal with projected video traffic levels and are highly intrusive to content,” said Marco Wanders, executive vice president of Mobile Broadband at Acision. “Acision’s unique, subscriber aware video optimization solution overcomes these drawbacks of legacy solutions, by providing content transparency and the lowest hardware footprint offered in the market today, reflecting a substantially lower total cost of ownership for the operator.”
