Venture capital financing wrap-up: LimeLife, Airband, HipCricket and more

The following list includes venture capital and other investments into wireless companies announced during the past week. The value of the investment is included when available.
–Airband Communications: M/C Venture Partners invested $12.5 million in Airband as part of the company’s third round of funding. Airband said it will use the funds to accelerate growth in its existing markets. Salvatore Tirabassi, partner with M/C Ventures, joins Airband’s board of directors in conjunction with the financing.
–HipCricket: Broadmark Capital and a European investment group invested $6 million in HipCricket’s second financing round. The company plans to use the money to expand its mobile marketing services to broadcasters.
–IceBreaker Inc.: Frazier Technology Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners invested $7.2 million in IceBreaker, which offers a mobile social network application called Crush or Flush. The company said it will use the funds to expand consumer marketing, new product development and research and development.
–Jajah Inc.: Deutsche Telekom AG’s venture-capital arm T-Online Venture fund joined with Intel Corp. to invest in Jajah Inc., a two-year old company that offers a global Voice over Internet Protocol service. Jajah raised a total of $20 million in its third funding round.
–LimeLife Inc.: Core Capital Partners invested $3.9 million in LimeLife, which offers mobile content geared toward women. Former CTIA CEO Tom Wheeler will join LimeLife’s board of directors as part of the funding arrangement.
–Mobicious: North Bridge Venture Partners and Carmel Ventures invested $4 million in Mobicious as part of the company’s first round of financing. The funding will be used for product development, business development and marketing.
–Palm Inc.: Elevation Partners said it plans to buy a 25% stake in Palm for $325 million. Once the deal is completed, Palm said it will increase its board of directors to include Jon Rubinstein, the former head of Apple Inc.’s iPod division.
–Vocel: Motorola Inc.’s Motorola Ventures venture capital arm made a strategic investment in Vocel, a wireless push technology company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
–Zenrin Co. Ltd.: NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it plans to invest $3 million in a unit of Zenrin that makes digital maps. The deal would give DoCoMo a 10.27% stake in the company.
