Leap Wireless International Inc.’s Cricket store in Greenwood Village, Colo., is the first of the carrier’s outlets to showcase its retail redesign, which is supposed to help the flat-rate brand broaden its appeal as well as make changing messaging easier and more efficient for store employees. Retail business manager Jennifer Aymami took a few moments to discuss sales trends at the location with RCR Wireless News.
What are the most popular handsets?
“The Motorola Slvr, that’s our No. 1 handset right now. Also, the [red] Samsung Siren we’re really selling heavily right now. It’s our first colored handset.”
What are the most popular accessories?
“The most popular accessory would be our value packs, which include a car charger, a case and a Bluetooth headset. We sell more value packs than we do the single accessories.”
Which plans are customers most interested in?
“We have two plans that are the most popular. People who are traveling a lot want the $60 plan, which gives them 200 minutes of roaming. They really like to have that flexibility. Then, for $50 per month, people who are just going to stay in the Front Range area get unlimited calling, text messaging, absolutely everything is tied into just the one plan for $50.”
What services are people most interested in?
“Text messaging is definitely the biggest one. Also, as far as add-ons, the unlimited directory assistance. People can add it to a plan for $3 per month and they can call 411 as much as they want. [Customers] just want the unlimited when they come to us-no surprises on the bill.”
What do you see customers wanting in 2007?
“That’s a tough one. Just greater flexibility in the wireless service, I think that’s going to get greater and greater. And we definitely fit that-and also, the new and exciting handsets.”
