Carriers measure up
A former Yahoo employee has created a new Web site, www.MeasuredUp.com, that is designed to provide a forum for cellular phone subscribers to rate their experience with their carrier. Users can log on to the Web site and share their experience in the areas of customer service, signal strength and phone and accessory quality. The comments eventually will be presented to each carrier in an effort to prompt change, according to the site. Other industries will be targeted by the site in the future.

But will it keep the team above 500?
The Houston Astros launched both baseball and Bluetooth on opening day this year. Minute Maid Park began offering Bluetooth zones where fans can download Astros-related content such as pictures, wallpapers, videos and special offers. The Bluetooth zones are located at two restaurants within the park. “We are always looking for new and innovative ways to reach the Generation Y demographic,” said Jennifer Randall, senior director of marketing for the Astros. “The Astros are able to offer several pieces of free content during each home game. Bluecasting allows us to send brand-building messages such as custom phone wallpapers and exclusive videos along with sales-driven messages, including ticket and sponsor offers.” The organization said it is the first ballpark in the country to offer interactive Bluetooth zones.

Solar speak
Hi-Tech Wealth Inc. said it launched a solar-powered mobile phone. The S116 uses a battery that, when exposed to direct sunlight for an hour, provides 40 minutes of talk time. The company said the battery will even recharge when exposed to weak light such as sunlight on an overcast day, indoor lighting or candle light. The phone includes a 1.3-megapixel camera and supports a removable memory card. The phone sells in China for about $510.
