Bits and Bytes: T-Mobile deploys green site; OfferMobi reaches milestone; and more

T-Mobile USA launched a solar powered cell site in Chalfont, Penn. The company said it is the first solar cell site it has deployed in the United States. The site includes 12 solar panels, and T-Mobile said it expects the site to run without tapping into local electricity and also to supply energy back into the power grid at times.

OfferMobi said it has achieved a new record of a daily click rate of more than 150,000 for its mobile advertising platform. OfferMobi said advertisers only pay it for a completed action, rather than just a page impression. Completed actions include securing a subscription, signing up for a newsletter, opting in to an SMS list or any other type of desirable end-user activity.

PicoChip launched its PC333 chip, which is designed to extend the femtocell into the realm of public access infrastructure in applications like metro femto, rural femto and strand-mounted systems. The PC333 system-on-chip device supports 32 channels for simultaneous voice and HSPA+ data. The product also supports MIMO and soft-handover and conforms to the Local Area Basestation standard, said the company.

ZTE launched its Converged Service Network solution, which incorporates traditional SDP architecture and cloud computing features to create a SDP as a Service solution. The CSN is a new service network platform that integrates mobile and fixed network infrastructure onto a basic platform that supports both Internet and telecom services, said the company.

3G Americas elected Powerwave Technologies to its board of governors. Powerwave joins 17 other operators and manufacturers on the board.

Genband, an IP solutions and services developer, said it named VoIP Logic as an S-Series Master Reseller. VoIP Logic will manage other resellers and provide extended technical support, training and professional services for Genband session border controller technology. Genband also announced that Halstad Telephone Company, Federated Telephone Cooperative and Farmers Mutual Telephone Company have selected Genband’s C15 Compact Softswitch to help deliver voice and data communication services to residential and business subscribers.

Ericsson announced two new products this week. The company launched its second-generation F3307 module that is designed specifically for Tablets. The product introduces the Quick Connect feature, which allows devices to connect to the Internet within seconds of resuming from sleep mode. It also reduces power consumption by up to half compared with previous generations, said Ericsson. Ericsson also unveiled its F5521gw module, a 21 Mbps mobile broadband module designed for notebooks. Features of the module include GPS capability; Wake-on-Wireless, which allows a device to connect while in sleep mode; anti-theft technology, and Quick Connect.

Nex-Tech Wireless said it won the naming rights for sports fields located at the new Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex in Hays, Kansas. The facility is scheduled to open this fall and will include eight softball/baseball fields, eight soccer/football fields and a variety of amenities for athletes and visitors.

Altair Semiconductor announced commercial availability of its Digital Dividend (Band 20) reference design. The product includes the company’s FourGee LTE chipset and interoperability-tested software stack. The company said it can be used in a variety of applications, including USB dongles, CPEs and routers. Altair said the product has undergone IOT testing with tier-one infrastructure vendors.

Grid Net said it is working with Sprint to deliver a Smart Grid solution that uses Grid Net’s software platforms to connect smart meters and smart grid routers via Sprint’s 4G network.

Allied Fiber, which is constructing an integrated dark fiber, neutral collocation and wireless tower network, launched its Dark Fiber Community. The community, which is hosted on TMCNet, is a resource for anyone seeking to build new or extend existing fiber and wireless transport networks, said the company.

Trapeze Networks, which provides wireless LAN equipment and management software, announced a new channel sales and marketing program. The company said it added more granular levels to its reseller program to increase profitability and expertise of value-added resellers at the highest levels. Resellers are now assigned regionally to reduce channel conflict and ensure customers get the highest level of wireless LAN reseller support available, said the company.
