AT&T Wireless Services Inc. received the most consumer complaints registered with the Federal Communications Commission during the third quarter of last year according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.
The report noted that AT&T Wireless, the country’s third-largest operator that recently announced it would begin soliciting bids to be acquired, received 6.4 complaints per 100,000 customers, topping Sprint PCS’ four complaints per 100,000 customers and T-Mobile USA Inc.’s 3.5 complaints per 100,000 customers.
Verizon Wireless came out on top in the report with 1.5 customer complaints per 100,000 subscribers, followed by Nextel Communications Inc. with two complaints per 100,000 customers and Cingular Wireless L.L.C., which is currently the favorite to acquire AT&T Wireless, with 3.2 complaints per 100,000 customers.
AT&T Wireless downplayed the findings to Dow Jones Business News, noting “The number of complaints we received is so small that it’s almost not measurable in terms of the size of our customer base.”
AT&T Wireless also posted a poor showing in a customer satisfaction report released last week by Vocal Laboratories comparing customers’ experiences among the country’s four largest wireless carriers. The report, which included call monitoring and a survey of more than 40,000 wireless customers, rated Verizon Wireless the best in caller satisfaction with a score of 43 followed by Cingular’s score of 25, Sprint PCS with 14 and AT&T Wireless at minus-five.
