House committee approves database protection legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The House Judiciary Committee has approved database protection legislation, a bill designed to improve the market climate for collection of information and harmonize U.S. policy with the international community.

The measure, passed Wednesday by a 16-to-7 vote, reportedly was amended to give some liability protection to Internet service providers and to strengthen exemptions for educational and scientific bodies.
