T-Mobile USA Inc. announced it will begin offering its myFaves service to its Sidekick 3 users through an over-the-air software update. Once loaded, the update will allow Sidekick 3 customers to add the carrier’s myFaves offering to their service plan.
T-Mobile USA’s myFaves service allows users to select any five numbers for unlimited calling, regardless of network.
Along with the addition of myFaves, the Sidekick 3 software update will also add features including an “active” address book, where users can call or message directly from their contacts list, as well as a text messaging character count and an e-mail attachment photo-saving function.
T-Mobile USA is the only major carrier in the United States to offer the Sidekick, which is made by Danger Inc. The Sidekick was one of the first U.S. devices to use over-the-air updating technology, which allows users to update their phone’s software without visiting a carrier’s retail outlet.
As for the addition of myFaves to the Sidekick 3, T-Mobile USA said customers will first need to accept the software update and then either call T-Mobile USA customer care or go online to choose among its myFaves rate plans.
The Sidekick 3 OTA update, officially called Release 3.4, will be distributed to users over the course of the next month.
