Sony Pictures International said it has secured the rights from Ripley Entertainment Inc. to distribute mobisodes of the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Television show. The show, which aired in the 1980s and again between 1999 and 2003, featured footage of incredible and odd feats of people and animals.

The direct-to-consumer Web site offers ringtones, wallpapers, screensavers, pet lifestyle text subscriptions and even pet-themed mobile games. In addition, the company has teamed up with doggie manners expert Charlotte Reed to offer a text alert service called Dog Bytes that provides pet fashion news, travel tips, product reviews, health news, training advice and pet horoscopes.

UpSnap Inc. said it is teaming up with Sound Choice to offer a mobile karaoke application. Users text the message “Karaoke” to UpSnap’s shortcode (2SNAP) to access the service. The company said its catalog includes karaoke favorites such as “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor, and “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-A-Lot. The service is free for the first 30 days and then costs $2 a month.

A new approach to mobile marketing
Plantronics Inc. launched an effort to train its channel partners and end users on the benefits of wireless headsets with the help of its Sound Coach, a 44-foot-long mobile marketing vehicle. The Sound Coach is scheduled to travel across the United States, stopping at industry events, partner sales offices and some retail stores. Guests can participate in several interactive demonstrations that illustrate the features and benefits of headsets.
