SK Telecom unveils new connected car service

Service is based on the SK Telecom’s mobile navigation app ‘T map’

SK Telecom unveiled its “T map for Car” connected car service, which is based on the company’s “T map” mobile navigation app. The mobile operator said the new connected car service will be applied to the Kia K5 (Optima) under the name “T map for Kia” beginning in July, and Jaguar Land Rover F-Pace under the name “T map for JLR” beginning in September.

T map for Car is Korea’s first connected car service that links a mobile navigation service/app to an in-vehicle navigation system. The service is said to enable drivers to use T map on their in-vehicle infotainment system screens by mirroring their mobile device screens through a USB cable. T map for Car offers enhanced user interfaces as well as customized features through cooperation with automakers.

SK Telecom said the service is designed to work with in-vehicle infotainment systems from many different automakers. For instance, T map for Kia will provide screen mirroring based on MirrorLink, while T map for JLR will offer the service by interworking with Jaguar Land Rover’s InControl Apps.
