Under the new contract the firm will provide its IoT offender monitoring and tracking solution Onmilink
U.S. firm Numerex, a provider of enterprise solutions enabling the Internet of Things (IoT), has announced the renewal of a multi-year contract with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Under the terms of the contract, Numerex will provide its offender monitoring and tracking solution, Omnilink, to enable real-time visibility of offenders who are under a court order to be tracked and monitored electronically. Numerex said that the contract renewal provides up to five years of offender tracking services with an approximate value of $2 million.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) jurisdiction covers an area of 438 square miles with a population of nearly 1,000,000 citizens. CMPD implemented their first electronic monitoring program in 2007 and currently monitors over 400 offenders at any given time, with the capacity to expand to up to 1,500 offenders. CMPD requires an electronic monitoring system that provides pre-trial and post-conviction supervision of court ordered adult and juvenile offenders for property and person crimes. The department also has a progressive domestic violence supervision program which supervises high-risk domestic violence offenders.
Through the use of the capabilities of the Omnilink Solution, the CMPD program is used as a crime deterrent as well as a crime solving tool.
“We are pleased to announce a new contract for electronic monitoring services to Omnilink Systems. The contract is now available to all public agencies, school districts, and higher education institutions in the United States of America, and other government agencies and non-profit organizations through Charlotte Cooperative Purchasing Alliance (CCPA),” the City of Charlotte said in a statement.
Numerex offers a portfolio of managed end-to-end IoT solutions including smart devices, network connectivity and service applications. The company provides this portfolio of solutions to a wide spectrum of vertical markets and industrial customers.
