AT&T Wireless garners most LNP complaints

After more than two weeks of availability, AT&T Wireless Services Inc. led its nationwide competition in local number portability customer complaints, according to a report released by the Federal Communications Commission this week, with the carrier garnering more than half of the 600 complaints filed with the government agency.

AT&T Wireless received a letter of inquiry from the FCC regarding the LNP complaints last week, which the carrier is expected to respond to later today.

AT&T Wireless has acknowledged problems with its initial porting processes related to a software glitch with LNP service provider NeuStar Inc. as well as insufficient testing with other operators. The carrier noted yesterday that it has fixed the software problems, and it is now matching the porting times of its rivals.

Following AT&T Wireless’ 332 LNP-related complaints were 129 complaints filed against Verizon Wireless, 98 complaints filed against Cingular Wireless L.L.C., 94 complaints filed against Sprint PCS, 46 complaints filed against Nextel Communications Inc. and 44 complaints filed against T-Mobile USA Inc.
