Leap Wireless (LEAP) named Jerry Elliott to replace the retiring Walter Berger as the carrier’s EVP and CFO beginning May 1. Berger, who was named CFO at Leap in early 2008, announced earlier this year plans to leave the company to become CFO at Dallas-based SoftLayer.
Elliott is currently owner of Jerry Elliott Interests, which provides “strategic capital and operating leadership” to enterprise customers. Elliott has a history in the telecom space having worked as CFO and president of Frontier Communications, CEO at Global Signal and CFO at Virgin Media.
“Jerry’s demonstrated track record as a successful business leader and his hands on business experience make him the perfect candidate to step into this important role on our management team to support our financial strategy and growth initiatives,” said Doug Hutcheson, Leap’s president and CEO, in a statement. “We welcome Jerry to the Leap team and believe his strong operational experience as a CFO along with his excellent external investor relations experience will benefit Leap and its shareholders.”
Leap’s stock was trading down more than 2% early Monday. The carrier is scheduled to release first quarter financial results Wednesday.
