The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
- Cellular
- Thailand: Nokia Corp. said it won a $110 million contract to expand DTAC’s GSM/EDGE network. The company also said it won a $100 million contract to expand AIS’ GSM/EDGE network.
- United States: Verizon Wireless awarded a five-year contract valued at about $2 billion to Nortel Networks to improve and expand the carrier’s network.
WiMAX - India: Aperto Networks said BSNL began rolling out its WiMAX equipment, including PacketMAX base stations and subscriber units, in six cities and four rural areas in the country.
Miscellaneous - North America: LCC International Inc. said it signed a services agreement with TerreStar Networks Inc. to manage spectrum clearing of incumbents in part of the 2 GHz MSS band.
