SANTA CLARA, Calif.-PixSense is jumping on the user-generated mobile content bandwagon after snaring $5.4 million in Series A funding.
ATA Ventures and Innovacom led the financing round.
PixSense’s downloadable application allows users to manage photos, videos, audio content and text from a mobile phone. The company said it will launch service with unnamed carriers early next year, and will use the new capital to accelerate product development and secure more operator deals.
The startup is the latest to join the increasingly crowded mobile blogging arena, which is centered on user-generated content and building virtual communities. Players with similar offerings include FunMobility, Intercasting Corp.’s Rabble, AirG and Jumbuck; online sites such as MySpace and YouTube are also jumping onto the wireless playground.
“We’re very excited about PixSense because it solves a true infrastructure problem for operators to manage and appropriately monetize mobile media,” said Innovacom’s Aymerik Renard. “We believe PixSense has the potential to become a very successful digital media software company addressing a very large market.”
