ATLANTA—Everyone knows that pink is hot, at least when it comes to sales of Motorola Inc.’s Razr V3 handset.
But what about the cachet of the recently released blue Razr, a Motorola exclusive for Cingular Wireless L.L.C.?
After appearing on the carrier’s Web site Aug. 7 as the 20th handset listed, priced at $100—with the pink, black and silver Razr models listed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, also at $100—the blue Razr one week later appeared second in the lineup, priced at $50. The other Razr models remained at $100.
Did the carrier drop the price and give the blue Razr more visibility because it wasn’t selling?
According to Clay Owen, spokesperson for Cingular, the blue Razr is doing fine, but the carrier tweaked its price and placement on its Web site for increased visibility and to see what those changes might do for sales.
“We’re experimenting around the edges to see what will grab everyone’s attention,” Owen said.
