SAN RAMON, Calif.—Push-to-talk platform provider Kodiak Networks and Korean handset manufacturer Pantech Co. Ltd. announced that they are partnering on a global effort to develop and market PTT-enabled handsets.
According to the two companies, the international handset license and strategic marketing agreement will allow them to work together to develop handsets that can offer services such as real-time availability, instant voice messaging and group text messaging.
This is Pantech’s first foray into the PTT handset market. Kodiak provides PTT capabilities for a handful of domestic wireless operators such as Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Alltel Corp., Amp’d Mobile Inc. and Cellular South, as well as a number of operators abroad.
“Our global partnership agreement with Kodiak Networks underscores our commitment to develop exciting and compelling devices that attract a wide range of customers,” said Tae Hyun Jeong, Pantech’s vice president of research and development planning. “We believe there is a very robust market opportunity for advanced voice services throughout the world.”
Kodiak also announced that it had partnered with SS8 Networks to offer a product to help companies comply with the Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act, which allows law enforcement agencies with court permission to intercept wireless communications, including PTT transmissions and subpoena call records.
