Shentel extends forbearance agreement with Sprint Nextel

EDINBURG, Va.—Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. has extended its forbearance agreement with Sprint Nextel Corp. to Aug. 14 or whenever a lawsuit pending against the national carrier by other affiliates is resolved.

Shentel has agreed not to file suit against Sprint Nextel in exchange for the national carrier agreeing to certain parameters in the operations of its iDEN business in Shentel territory. The companies first entered into the agreement in August 2005 that has been extended several times.

Sprint Nextel is in the process of acquiring its affiliates and is facing lawsuits from several of them. The affiliates accuse the company of violating affiliate agreements following Sprint Corp.’s acquisition of Nextel Communications Inc.
