NEW YORK-New York City has chosen Nokia Corp. to be the primary provider of the city’s free Wi-Fi networks in its parks.
The 10 major parks with networks currently being installed include Central Park, Union Square Park, Washington Square Park, Prospect Park and Corona Flushing Meadows. Central Park will have eight Wi-Fi locations. New York-based WiFi Salon owns and manages the network infrastructure.
According to Nokia, the company will “introduce mobile multimedia services in the parks with local media partners during the summer. The media partners will provide complimentary mobile versions of their content to Nokia devices with Wi-Fi connectivity used in the parks.”
The company said that the parks’ public Wi-Fi will be accessible with laptops and Nokia devices including the N80 and N91 wireless devices and the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet.
