It’s not all about the iPhone 5 for AT&T – the nation’s second largest carrier says it has two new Android LTE smartphones and a Windows 8 phone on the way. All three phones come from HTC: the just-announced HTC One X+ is the high-end Android model and the One VX is the midrange version. HTC’s Windows phone is called the Windows Phone 8X.
The HTC One X+ combines Android 4.1, LTE capability and Nvidia’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Previous LTE-ready models of the HTC One X ran on Qualcomm’s dual-core processors, while quad-core versions were not LTE compatible. AT&T says the One X+ is coming soon but has not yet released a date. The company says it will be the exclusive carrier for the One X+.
AT&T is billing the HTC One VX as “an affordable Android smartphone and a premium experience.” A lot of that so-called premium experience seems to be centered around the 5 megapixel camera, which the carrier says can shoot 4 frames per second and can capture a still image from a video using a feature called VideoPic.
The Windows 8X is coming next month, and will feature HTC’s built-in Beats audio technology. It will be a direct competitor to Nokia’s Lumia 920, another Windows LTE phone available from AT&T.
