SAN FRANCISCO—Cell phone headset maker Phonebites Inc. said it raised $7 million in its second round of venture funding, which was led by Mayfield Fund.
Mayfield Managing Director Janice Roberts is expected to join Phonebites’ board of directors as part of its investment in the company.
The company’s existing investors also participated in the funding round, including Cardinal Venture Capital, Garage Technology Ventures and the former Siemens financing unit now known as Greenpark Capital.
Phonebites sells a hands-free headset called the Razz Headset that allows customers to insert sound clips into live conversations, outgoing messages and voicemail. Razz technology also is available as a software download for mobile phones.
Earlier this year, Phonebites signed on Strax to manufacture and distribute its Razz Headset and to serve as its exclusive European distributor for the product. The company also signed a licensing agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising to offer sound bites from the TV show “Family Guy” and the movie “Napoleon Dynamite” on the Razz Headset.
