SAN DIEGO-Wireless Facilities Inc. announced that its contract for engineering services with a national wireless carrier has been extended for two more years. The contract extension is worth about $40 million to WFI, which designs, deploys and manages wireless networks, technology networks and security systems.
Under the terms of the agreement, WFI said it would perform RF engineering and technical services across multi vendor platforms and technologies, including GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS as well as E-911 deployment.
“This contract represents a subset of the total work we perform for this global carrier, and is an extremely important win for WFI as we extend our strategic relationship with this carrier as the prime RF engineering partner over the next two years,” said Eric DeMarco, president and chief executive officer of WFI.
The company declined to name the carrier.
In January, the company said it racked up about $40 million in new government contract wins and extensions during the fourth quarter of 2005. Those contracts were said to range from one month to five years.
WFI posted a strong third quarter, having reported net income of $5.8 million after posting a $14.9 million net loss during the same period a year ago. The company said it plans to release its year-end financial results Feb. 21, but has warned investors that its sales were likely to fall flat during its fourth quarter because of operational problems in Latin America and hurricane-related problems in the Gulf region, where the company does much if its domestic business of building and managing Wi-Fi networks.
