HERNDON, Va.-iDirect Technologies and Globecomm Systems Inc. announced a new service that will allow GSM carriers to backhaul their cellular traffic over a satellite connection. The companies said the offering will support GSM service throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa, and can work in the most remote of locations.
“GSM backhaul is an ideal application for our platform, and a great opportunity for iDirect,” said John Kealey, president and chief executive officer of iDirect. “The iDirect platform delivers a fully shared network topology, allowing unbeatable network efficiency and bandwidth reduction as network demands and traffic patterns are groomed across multiple base stations throughout a wide geographic footprint.”
The companies’ new VSAT hub will support multiple shared networks delivering GSM service.
IDirect, a division of Vision Technologies Systems Inc., develops and markets bi-directional satellite-based broadband IP solutions. Globecomm provides satellite-based communications solutions.
