PARIS-Media giant Vivendi Universal is considering merging its French fixed-line and wireless companies into one telecom holding, according to international press reports. Vivendi would combine Cegetel, its fixed-line company, and SFR, its French mobile subsidiary. Both units are minority owned by Vodafone Group plc.
Under the proposal, Vivendi would hold 56 percent of the telecom unit, and Vodafone would hold the remaining 44 percent.
Vodafone has been trying for months to gain majority control of SFR, but its attempts to date have not been successful.
