Android fragmentation continues to raise concerns

Android development is certainly moving at break-neck speed, but even as Google released new statistics on the version breakdown for the mobile operating system, concerns over platform fragmentation continued to surface.

With at least four different flavors of Android on the market, it’s not hard to see how both consumers and Google partners alike might be feeling the frustration.

According to the latest figures – emerging just weeks after Verizon updated the Motorola Droid to the latest version of Android – Android 1.5 (Cupcake ) now accounts for the most devices with 38%, followed by Android 1.6 (Donut) at 31.6% and Android 2.1 (
