Concept car integrates 1X, Wi-Fi technologies

TORONTO-A concept car outfitted with wireless technology from Canadian wireless data and global positioning systems solutions company Baka Trak-IT is being used to demonstrate wireless network operability at this week’s Bell Mobility Wireless Internet conference.

Dubbed the Baka Wireless Smart Car, the Daimler Chrysler vehicle is outfitted with wireless wide area network technologies. It includes access to wireless Internet and a secure virtual private network, an 802.11 hot spot, a GPS tracking system, onboard computers and a wireless video camera. The technology will allow any device in or near the car to access the Internet or secure corporate intranets or VPNs via Wi-Fi or the integrated 1XRTT data network that works as a wide-area bridge.

“For the concept car, we used a combination of wireless networks to demonstrate the need for ubiquity and new standards for interoperability in the wireless world,” explained Guy Annable, director of business development for Baka Trak-IT.
