NEW ORLEANS – Amongst all domestic wireless carriers, regional operator Bluegrass Cellular is in a unique position in that it is set to offer LTE services to customers across two separate networks.
One offering will run across a network completely controlled by the carrier targeting fixed mobile broadband services, while the other is in conjunction with Verizon Wireless and its LTE in Rural America program targeting customers with smartphones and the need to roam.
Barry Nothstine, VP of sales and marketing for Bluegrass Cellular, talked with RCR Wireless News at the Competitive Carriers Association 2013 event in New Orleans on a number of topics relating to the carrier’s LTE plans. Those topics included:
Challenges associated with the rural carrier rolling out LTE services using its 700 MHZ, Band Class 12 spectrum holdings.
Provides some insight into the carrier’s recently announced home broadband offering that takes advantage of the carrier’s 700 MHz, A-Block spectrum and that will run in conjunction with its current LTE offering running as part of Verizon Wireless’ LTE in Rural America program.
The importance of roaming agreements for cellular operators and the impact a recent announcement from Sprint Nextel regarding the possibility of LTE roaming deals could have on rural carriers.
And, updates the carrier’s participation in Verizon Wireless’ LTE in Rural America program and how that offering will be positioned with the carrier’s recently unveiled GetSetGo fixed broadband offering.
