Ericsson to cut 1,700 Swedish workers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson said it will lay off 1,700 workers in its Stockholm and Gothenburg offices as part of its previously announced plan to cut 7,000 positions.

The jobs affected are mainly white-collar positions.

The company, which hopes to become profitable later this year, has cut in half its workforce of 107,000 since 2001.
