BT expands mobile offerings with family plan

LONDON-U.K. fixed-line operator British Telecommunications announced plans to focus on the consumer wireless market with a wireless product called BT Mobile Home Plan targeted at families. The carrier will resell wireless service from T-Mobile for the offering.

BT also has a mobile virtual network operator agreement with its former wireless division MmO2 that targets the business market.

The new consumer package is focused on families who want up to five handsets on a monthly bill with short calls-two minutes and less-to a home number free under the plan.

The company hopes to generate about $488 million in revenue from wireless service by March 2005. The company also announced plans this week to trial a Bluetooth-enabled wireless phone that operates on fixed networks when used in a home or office and on mobile networks when away from the home or office.
