RICHARDSON, Texas-Hanaro Telecom Inc. will begin testing non-line-of-sight wide-area wireless broadband technology from Navini Networks in Korea this month.
Hanaro will test Navini’s Ripwave system on the 2.3 GHz spectrum, which has been allocated by the Korean government for high-speed wireless Internet service.
“It is not unusual in Korea to spend the majority of the time away from a fixed Internet connection, so a solution such as Navini’s that is truly mobile and easy to use has real value to us,” explained Ko Jin-Woong, senior vice president of Hanaro Telecom. “We are aggressively testing wide-area wireless broadband technology with the intent of deploying the first systems early next year.”
Separately, in the United States, U.S. Wireless Online Inc. said it has begun implementing its NLOS wireless technology for high-speed Internet access in Louisville, Ky. But Navini is the preferred equipment vendor for the project and will begin installing towers in five chosen locations next month.
