The price of wireless service dropped 1.9 percent last month compared with the month of May in the top 25 U.S. markets to $36.54 across four levels of usage, according to economic research and consulting firm Econ One Research Inc.
The survey found that the average cost of wireless service across four usage levels-50 minutes, 200 minutes, 500 minutes and 800 minutes-dropped in 24 of the top 25 markets with a 0.7-percent increase in Phoenix, the only market to witness an increase in the price of service. Econ One noted the increase resulted from Verizon Wireless eliminating certain price plans at the 200- and 500-minute levels in its Phoenix markets that more than offset a drop in the cost of service from AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and T-Mobile USA Inc.
St. Louis wireless customers witnessed the largest drop in the price of wireless service, with prices falling 4.1 percent to $36.03.
Cincinnati was the most expensive market in the survey with an average cost of service of $38.40 during June, which was a 0.6-percent drop from the previous month. Sacramento, Calif., had the lowest average cost of service at $34.77 during June, which was a 0.6-percent decrease from May.
