Agere chipset integrates WLAN with VoIP

ALLENTOWN, Pa.-Agere Systems Inc. said it has unveiled a new chipset that integrates its wireless local area network solution and its Voice over Internet Protocol solution onto one platform.

The company also said it has signed an agreement to incorporate into its Internet Protocol phone solution the Universal Plug and Play software of NTT-ME Corp., a Japanese service provider.

“By combining these two technologies into a single, integrated chipset, Agere’s solution will support communications devices that give users the freedom to roam across corporate networks, residential broadband networks and public Wi-Fi hot spots,” said Agere.
