Albany, N.Y.-The New York State Assembly has passed a bill requiring the recycling of wireless phones.
The state Legislature unanimously passed the bill 147-0. The measure would require manufacturers and retailers that offer take-back programs to provide an outlet for consumers to recycle wireless phones. It also would prohibit the disposal of the devices as solid waste.
The Assembly passed the measure June 19, sending it to the Senate Rules Committee, where it awaits action.
