NEW YORK-Tele2 AB said it signed a mobile virtual network operator agreement with Radiolinja, the Finnish mobile operator. Tele2 recently purchased 100 percent of Finnish 3G Suomen 3G, its Finnish mobile business, from Finnet Group and said the MVNO agreement will allow it to offer GSM services in addition to its current fixed-line services in the country.
Finnish 3G holds a third-generation license in Finland but does not have a current-generation network.
“I am delighted that we have struck this deal with Radiolinja as it will enable us to increase our service offering to our customers and to grow our subscriber base in Finland without having to build our own infrastructure,” said Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, chief executive officer of Tele2.
3G licenses in Finland were awarded through a “beauty contest,” and the prices paid were much lower than in other European countries where auctions were held.
