TOKYO-Japanese wireless data giant NTT DoCoMo Inc. said it will launch a mobile-commerce service the carrier said will allow its subscribers to purchase accessories, perfumes and health care goods using their mobile phones.
Mobile-phone users will be able to visit DoCoMo’s new online store at http://dcmm.jp using their phones and will be able to pay for items using their Visa or JCB credit cards. The site now features 10 virtual shops, including three malls and 10 boutiques.
Such a mobile commerce initiative is notable because most efforts in the space involve users paying for goods from brick-and-mortar stores with their phones, while the DoCoMo service is focused on virtual stores.
Earlier this week, DoCoMo launched its first i-mode handset incorporating a Macromedia Flash browser. The moya D505i is the first in a series of enhanced PDC i-mode handsets that allow users to view fluid animation. The phone also has a camera with a resolution of 630,000 pixels and built-in flash.
