ATLANTA-Motorola Inc. released an innovative new cordless product aimed at taking advantage of the growing market for Internet instant messaging.
Motorola’s CD-sized IMfree device works much as a cordless phone, but connects to Internet messaging systems through users’ desktop computers. The device runs on the 900MHz ISM band, the same band for cordless phones.
The device is compatible with AOL Instant Messenger and AIM Buddy Lists, offering users the ability to roam around the house while conducting instant messaging sessions. It is expected to be available in the second half of this year for around $100.
