TOKYO-KDDI, the second-largest mobile operator in Japan, announced it will launch a new location service for its “au” brand mobile handset users starting 17 April. Using the service, an au mobile handset user can identify the location of another au handset user on either an au handset or a PC.
KDDI said subscribers can use the service for identifying the locations of missing kids or the elderly who are suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease or to prevent extra-marital affairs.
The monthly charge for the service is 315 yen (US$2.62). The standard service user can identify the location of one au handset user. By paying an additional 105 yen (US$0.87) per handset, the user can identify up to five au handset users’ locations.
The handsets available for the new service are the A5301T, A5302CA and A5303H.
