PCTel releases roaming software

CHICAGO-PCTel Inc. has made commercially available its new Segue Roaming Client, which it said would help “resolve the problems that service providers and subscribers encounter when roaming (between) wide area cellular data service and wireless local area networks.”

The dual-mode client software helps end users locate Wi-Fi hot spots, keeps wireless customers on their carrier’s network or those of its roaming partners, simplifies billing and provides security enhancements through automatic detection, selection and connection, PCTel said.

“In effect, cellular carriers do not have to wait for 3G or build expensive 3G networks to realize significantly increased revenues from mobile data services,” said Marty Singer, chairman and chief executive officer of PCTel.
