LONDON-Vodafone Group plc confirmed that it is in discussions regarding Japan Telecom, its Japanese subsidiary that offers fixed-line service. Vodafone acquired Japan Telecom in stages to gain control of mobile arm J-Phone last year.
Vodafone said the talks “may or may not lead to an offer.”
In separate news, Vodafone said it would raise its offer to take full control of Swedish subsidiary Europolitan, while its Portuguese offer for full control of Telecel remains the same.
Vodafone will offer $5.47 for each share in Europolitan, up from its original $5.24 per-share offer. The Telecel offer remains at $9.15 for each Telecel share. Talks continue over the price for the additional Libertel shares Vodafone hope to acquire in the Netherlands.
