TOKYO-Matsushita Electric Industrial and Nokia announced they would jointly develop a platform for letting a mobile handset and an audio visual (AV) device communicate with each other. Following the agreement, both firms will develop handsets and audio visual devices, such as video players and television sets based on the platform by 2003 at the earliest.
Users of the devices can control an AV device at home by a mobile terminal and send still pictures or motion pictures taken by a mobile handset to an AV device. Several manufacturers have been developing Internet-enabled consumer electronics, however, they are employing different interconnection technology. Matsushita and Nokia are targeting to make their interconnection technology the de facto standard for the industry.
