WATERLOO, Ontario-Research In Motion Ltd. said it has signed an agreement in principal with Palm Inc. setting out fundamental terms under which RIM will license certain keyboard patents to Palm under a royalty-bearing licensing agreement. Financial terms of the agreement were not released.
The agreement comes days after RIM announced a similar deal with personal digital assistant manufacturer and Palm rival Handspring.
“RIM continues to license its patents and technologies to reputable companies to expand the market opportunities for its industry-leading research and development,” said Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-chief executive officer of RIM.
Palm said it would use the keyboard technology in its upcoming Tungsten W wireless handheld.
