AT&T Latin America in delicate financial situation

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-AT&T Corporation announced that its Latin American subsidiary will lose US$40 million during the fourth quarter of 2002 and into 2003. The majority shareholder remarked that it will not bail the subsidiary out. This situation places the AT&T Latin American partner near to defaulting on its debt of US$843 million and opens a serious discussion about its future.

AT&T Latin America operates using its own fiber optic network with wireless for the last mile in various localities. In Argentina, for example, it offers its services on 10.5 GHz and 28 GHz frequencies.
