VANCOUVER, British Columbia-Infowave Software agreed to pay Glenayre Electronics Inc. $130,000 in cash and up to 20,000 shares of its stock in order to settle a patent claim Glenayre filed against the company earlier this year.
Glenayre’s legal dispute with wireless enterprise company Infowave stems from a previous patent battle it fought with Research In Motion Ltd. In February, Glenayre conceded that its technology infringed on one of RIM’s patents, but the company later filed a lawsuit against Infowave, demanding $658,000 for the legal fees it incurred during its fight with RIM. Glenayre uses some of Infowave’s technology in the products that came under fire from RIM.
Infowave has now settled the dispute with Glenayre through the payment.
Patent battles have become commonplace in the tight economy as companies look to protect their position in the market.
