JAKARTA, Indonesia-Satelindo, Indonesia’s second-biggest cellular operator, revealed its plan for 2003.
Satelindo, which counts almost 2.1 million subscribers as of June this year, said it is targeting to have 4.5 million subscribers at the end of 2003. Satelindo holds 24.9 percent of the country’s cellular market share, down from 29.67 percent within the same period last year.
To achieve the target, Satelindo plans to invest US$300 million to be allocated mostly for the enhancement of Satelindo’s network capacity. The figure represents a 50-percent growth compared with the company’s investment in 2002 of US$200 million.
Satelindo, acquired by Indosat in mid 2001, teamed up with IM3, an Indosat cellular subsidiary, to compete with the country’s largest operator, Telkomsel, and the third-largest carrier, Excelcomindo.
The cooperation includes sharing infrastructure and nationwide roaming facilities. In total, the two operators held 28.28 percent of the market as of June this year.
