SAN JOSE, Calif.-Students and faculty at the University of Southern California campus will get to jump into the market for mobile commerce under a new service from infrared-based proximity payment company Harex InfoTech Inc. and CrossCheck Inc., a financial services firm.
Under a new project, dubbed ZOOP Universal Mobile Payments Service, students and faculty will be able to use a Handspring Treo Communicator, Cingular Wireless service and a virtual Visa card issued by the USC Federal Credit Union to make wireless payments. The campus bookstore will be the first merchant to implement the payment method.
Also on the wireless payment front, Vital Processing Services, a technology-based commerce company, announced a reseller agreement with U.S. Wireless Data Inc. Under the deal, Vital will offer its wireless payment services across 90 percent of the wireless coverage areas in the United States.
